Make Room: At His Feet; Not In His Seat

This is going to be a short blog, but it was something I felt compelled to share! During my prayer time, I began to pray that the Lord would take His rightful place as the King of our hearts. The Lord gave me a vision of a throne with a pile of junk on it. This pile of junk was sky high and covered the seat so there was no room to sit down. The Lord then said to me, "There is no room for me to sit. Clear the seat off so I can sit down." Whew! So simple, but so powerful at the same time. It caused me to do some reflection and really think about, what junk is on the throne of my heart so much so that He can't even sit down?

Some of the junk I had was:

  • fear of failing; not being accepted

  • worries of not being a good mother and wife

  • obligations to church

  • social media

  • people's opinions

  • traumatic experiences

  • heartache and pain

And the list could continue on and on...

I realized that all those things were sitting in His seat. I was focusing more on those things than His majesty and sovereignty. I had exalted those things above Him. I've come to realize that I held on to those things, because it was safe. I held on because that's what I had done for so long I didn't know there was another way to live. I held on because I was looking for an apology that was never going to come. I held on because I thought that's what I was supposed to do. I held on because I thought that showed my commitment.

I imagined myself pushing those things off of His throne and dusting the seat so He could sit down. Those things I pushed on the ground should have always been there; at His feet, not in His seat.

So, what junk do you have on God's throne? What do you need to push to the ground to make room for Him? If you've never heard the song, Make Room by Jonathan McReynolds, I highly suggest you listen to it. I listen to that song all the time, but this night, it took on a whole new meaning for me. I pray that we all make room for God, and keep His throne clear so He can reign as the King of our hearts.
